One of your first priorities should be to decide whether or not you are trying to work things out for your sake or the sake of your children.

Why is it a bad idea to stay together solely for the sake of the children?

1) Children are smarter than most parents give them credit for. They are always surprising parents with moments of wisdom and insights that go far beyond their years. They will know that something is wrong.

2) Children deserve a home that is filled with love. Two parents at each other's throats all the time or sitting in stony silences is anything but that happy home they deserve.

3) How much good are you going to be to your children if you're miserable or hurting all the time? It's not good for any of you and you all deserve better.

4) What kind of example does it set for your children? Your marriage should be one that inspires your children to live a life filled with love and not one that leaves them in fear of ever getting married or making this sort of commitment.

This doesn't mean that you should never try to work things out or stay together if you have children. It simply means that you need more than the incentive of providing for your children to keep you together. Here are a few reasons that when coupled with a deep and abiding love for one another are all excellent reasons to stand by your man.

1) Because you really can't see living the rest of your life without him as an integral part of your life. The longer you've been married the more likely this is to be the case. Love doesn't go away just because he did something stupid. The world will be entirely loveless if that were the case.

2) You remember the good times and there have been far more of those than bad times. When you can take stock of your relationship and know that there have been more good times together than bad, you have a pretty good relationship. Think long and hard before tossing it aside.

3) You know that he loves you and are willing to do whatever it takes to make sure he remembers. This takes guts but the rewards are worth the risk. Remind him why he loved you in the first place (each and every day) and he'll be unlikely to stray again.
